Call for articles: Adapting NATO to New Challenges
The open access journal ‘Connections’ is the flagship publication of the Partnership for Peace Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes. Its Editorial Board announces this call for articles on the needs, options and opportunities of adapting NATO’s response strategies to new and emerging challenges.
Preparing for the next NATO Summit in July 2016 in Warsaw, the Alliance is facing dramatic changes and new challenges in providing strategic and political stability. Emanating risks from Russia’s policy shift to the European security and to the framework of strategic and conventional arms control, the creeping proliferation of instability across the whole Middle East, spreading transnational insecurity originating in radical mobilization and a reckless use of force by transnational armed groups, China’s rise and new assertive policy in the East, are only a few elements of many that have triggered a debate about how to make crisis management respond, respectively prepare, to challenges that seem to constitute a new strategic disorder.
The challenges are manifold and intertwined and so are the needs for adaptation. Quick fixes cannot be expected. But passivity and stalemate will rather enhance risks than help. The PfPC Editorial Board invites contributions with concrete conclusions and innovative proposals that aim to facilitate the discussion on the best policy and strategy options for adapting NATO to new challenges.
Deadline: We accept papers on a rolling basis. Accepted papers will be published in the next issue of Connections.
